Authorities have released additional information regarding the death of Alyssa Ann Sydow-Hoffert, 42, following a tragic incident at a north Phoenix apartment community that is being investigated as a suspected murder-suicide.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday to reports of a disturbance at an apartment complex near North Valley Parkway and Sonoran Desert Drive, just east of Interstate 17. Upon arriving at the residence, officers discovered Alyssa Sydow-Hoffert and Henry Arthur Sydow-Hoffert, 59, deceased inside the home. Initial reports confirm that Alyssa died from multiple gunshot wounds, while Henry died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Detectives are treating the case as a homicide investigation.

Contrary to some early social media posts, authorities have not stated that Alyssa was found deceased “near Interstate 17.” Instead, police confirmed that the incident occurred inside a residence located near the intersection of North Valley Parkway and Sonoran Desert Drive, an area situated east of Interstate 17 in north Phoenix. The distinction is important, as the freeway itself was not the location of the discovery.

Investigators say the emergency call reported a disturbance at the apartment complex, prompting officers to respond quickly. When first responders entered the residence, they located both victims. Detectives later determined that Alyssa had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Based on the evidence gathered at the scene, investigators believe Henry Arthur Sydow-Hoffert fatally shot Alyssa before taking his own life. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner will conduct examinations to officially determine the causes and manners of death.

Police have not released extensive details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting, including how long the couple had been separated or whether anyone else witnessed the incident. However, Arizona’s Family reported that the pair were estranged, and detectives continue to examine evidence collected from the apartment as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have also not disclosed whether any previous domestic violence reports were connected to the residence.

The tragedy has left neighbors and members of the north Phoenix community shaken. A significant police presence remained at the apartment complex for several hours following the discovery, with investigators processing the scene and collecting evidence. Residents described the incident as deeply upsetting, noting that such violence is uncommon in the normally quiet neighborhood.

As detectives continue their investigation, Phoenix police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. No additional suspects are being sought, and investigators believe there is no ongoing threat to the public. Officials have indicated that more information may be released as the investigation progresses and as next of kin continue to be notified.

The deaths of Alyssa Ann Sydow-Hoffert and Henry Arthur Sydow-Hoffert have prompted an outpouring of sympathy for their family and loved ones. While investigators work to establish a complete timeline of events, the community continues to mourn a tragedy that has left many searching for answers.
