Raleigh police are investigating a deadly workplace shooting in the Brier Creek area that left one employee dead and another coworker facing a murder charge. The incident, which unfolded at a business on Mount Herman Road, prompted a large law enforcement response as detectives worked to determine what led to the fatal shooting.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded shortly after 5:00 p.m. to reports of a shooting at Onward Safety Solutions, a traffic control company located at 6521 Mount Herman Road in the Brier Creek business district. When officers arrived, they found Darieen Marquise Hewett, 26, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel transported Hewett to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police quickly identified and arrested Damouri Jontae Woods, 26, in connection with the shooting. Authorities charged Woods with murder, and he was scheduled to make his first court appearance following his arrest. Investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting or detailed the events that immediately preceded the gunfire. The case remains under active investigation.

Witnesses at the business told local media that both the victim and the suspect were coworkers. One eyewitness reported that the suspect entered an office inside the business before the shooting occurred. Employees who were present during the incident described the event as shocking and heartbreaking, saying they never imagined a workplace disagreement or conflict could escalate into deadly violence. Many remained at the scene for several hours while detectives processed evidence, as their vehicles were located within the secured crime scene.

Following the shooting, crime scene investigators collected evidence both inside and outside the business while detectives interviewed employees and other potential witnesses. Police established a perimeter around the property, temporarily restricting access as forensic teams documented the scene. The investigation is expected to include witness interviews, surveillance footage, and forensic analysis to establish a complete timeline of the events leading to Hewett’s death.

The fatal shooting has deeply affected employees and members of the Brier Creek business community. Coworkers expressed sorrow over the loss of Hewett, describing him as someone they knew personally and worked alongside on a regular basis. The incident has also renewed conversations about workplace safety and conflict resolution, particularly in environments where employees work closely together each day.

Authorities have emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public, noting that the suspect was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. Nevertheless, detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the homicide and have asked anyone with additional information to contact the Raleigh Police Department or submit anonymous tips through CrimeStoppers.

As the investigation moves forward, family members, friends, and coworkers are mourning the loss of Darieen Marquise Hewett while awaiting answers about what led to the tragic workplace shooting. Police have indicated that additional information, including any further court proceedings or investigative findings, will be released as the case progresses.
