An officer-involved shooting at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks is under investigation after a Simi Valley police officer opened fire on a 46-year-old attempted murder suspect who was being guarded while receiving medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that the incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The suspect survived the shooting, remains hospitalized in stable condition, and is still in police custody.

According to the Simi Valley Police Department, the events leading to the shooting began earlier that morning when officers responded to a reported domestic violence incident in the 2000 block of Clover Street in Simi Valley at approximately 1:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered a husband and wife suffering from stab wounds. Investigators determined that the husband, a 46-year-old Simi Valley resident, was the primary suspect and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder. Both individuals were transported to area hospitals for treatment, with the suspect being admitted to Los Robles Regional Medical Center under continuous police supervision.

Police said the suspect remained in custody throughout his hospitalization, with a Simi Valley police officer assigned to guard him. Investigators stated that the officer later noticed the suspect required medical attention and summoned hospital staff. During the medical assessment, an altercation occurred between the suspect and the officer. Although authorities have not publicly disclosed what led to the confrontation, the officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. Hospital personnel immediately provided emergency medical treatment. The suspect was reported to be in stable condition following the shooting, while no officers, hospital employees, patients, or visitors were injured.

The shooting prompted a significant law enforcement response at the hospital, located near the intersection of Janss Road and Lynn Road in Thousand Oaks. Officials emphasized that the incident was isolated and that the hospital continued operating normally throughout the response. In a statement, Los Robles Regional Medical Center confirmed that all patients, visitors, and staff remained safe and that medical services were not interrupted.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office has assumed responsibility for investigating the officer-involved shooting because it occurred within its jurisdiction. The investigation is being conducted with assistance from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, while the Simi Valley Police Department will carry out a separate administrative review of the officer’s actions in accordance with department policy. Detectives are expected to examine witness statements, physical evidence, surveillance footage, and body-worn camera recordings, if available, to determine the circumstances surrounding the use of force.
