Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is investigating a triple-fatal incident in south Ottawa that has been officially classified as a murder-suicide investigation involving two children and an adult male, according to a public police statement released on June 29, 2026.

Police say officers were called to a residence on Mandevilla Crescent for a welfare check at approximately 10 a.m. Upon entering the home, investigators discovered two boys, aged 7 and 12, deceased inside the residence.  The identities of the children have not been publicly released as next-of-kin notifications continue.

In a parallel development, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Ottawa Police reported that a series of connected scenes outside the city were under investigation, including a vehicle fire in Kemptville and a business fire in Iroquois, Ontario, both of which were being examined for possible links to the deaths.

Authorities confirmed that an adult male, identified in media reports as the father of the children, was located deceased inside the burned vehicle. Police have not released formal charging details because the suspect in a murder-suicide case is deceased and therefore cannot be prosecuted in court.

OPS has stated that investigators are working to determine the exact sequence of events and the relationship between the multiple locations involved. Officials have emphasized that the case is complex and ongoing, and that forensic analysis, scene reconstruction, and interviews are still underway.

At this stage, police have not publicly released detailed motive information. In early homicide investigations, law enforcement agencies typically avoid confirming speculation about intent until forensic evidence and case reviews are completed. Authorities have also confirmed that they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation has drawn significant public attention due to its classification as a suspected domestic-related murder-suicide involving children, one of the most sensitive categories of violent crime. Police have reiterated that early media descriptions can sometimes differ from final investigative conclusions, as coroners and homicide units continue to verify findings.

In cases like this, official procedure involves coordination between homicide investigators, forensic specialists, and the provincial coroner’s office to determine:

  • Cause and manner of death
  • Timeline of events
  • Connection between multiple scenes
  • Any history of prior incidents or domestic conflict (if relevant and verified)

Authorities have not confirmed or publicly detailed additional allegations circulating on social media or non-official websites regarding personal background claims or business-related incidents. Law enforcement statements remain the only verified source of information at this time.

The Ottawa Police Service has asked the public to submit any relevant information through its Homicide Unit tip line or Crime Stoppers. Investigators continue to stress that even small details could assist in reconstructing the full timeline of events.

As the investigation continues, officials have reiterated that updates will be released once verified information is confirmed through proper forensic and legal review. For now, the case remains an active and developing murder-suicide investigation involving two children and an adult male in Ottawa.
