According to a statement released by the City of Avondale Estates, the incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. during the community’s Independence Day fireworks celebration. Officers from the Avondale Estates Police Department, DeKalb County School District Police, and on-site event security quickly responded after receiving reports of what officials described as suspected celebratory gunfire in the area.

Out of an abundance of caution, authorities immediately began escorting spectators out of the stadium while officers secured the venue and searched for the source of the reported gunfire.
