A large law enforcement response unfolded Thursday afternoon at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, California, after an officer-involved shooting inside the hospital left a 46-year-old attempted murder suspect wounded. Authorities confirmed that the incident remains under active investigation, while emphasizing that there is no ongoing threat to the public and that hospital operations continued without interruption.

According to the Simi Valley Police Department, the events leading to the shooting began during the early morning hours of July 2, when officers responded to a reported domestic violence incident in the 2000 block of Clover Street in Simi Valley. Upon arriving at the residence shortly before 1:30 a.m., officers discovered a husband and wife suffering from stab wounds. Following a preliminary investigation, police identified the 46-year-old husband as the primary suspect and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder. The woman was transported to a local hospital, where officials said she underwent surgery and is expected to survive her injuries.

The suspect, who also sustained injuries during the domestic incident, was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center for continued treatment while remaining under constant supervision by a Simi Valley police officer. Authorities said the suspect remained in custody throughout his hospitalization as officers monitored his condition.

The officer-involved shooting occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. while hospital staff were evaluating the suspect. Police said the officer noticed the suspect required medical attention and requested assistance from healthcare personnel. During that assessment, an altercation occurred involving the suspect and the officer. The officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. Officials have not released specific details regarding what immediately prompted the use of deadly force, and investigators have declined to comment further while the case remains under review.

Hospital staff immediately treated the wounded suspect, who was reported to be in stable condition following the shooting. Authorities confirmed that no police officers, medical personnel, patients, or visitors were injured during the incident. Los Robles Regional Medical Center later issued a statement reassuring the public that all patients, visitors, and employees were safe and that the hospital continued normal operations despite the significant law enforcement presence outside the facility.

The shooting prompted a substantial response from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, which secured the hospital grounds and assumed responsibility for the criminal investigation because the incident occurred within Ventura County’s jurisdiction. Detectives from the sheriff’s office are working alongside the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the shooting. Meanwhile, the Simi Valley Police Department has launched its own administrative review into the officer’s actions, as required by department policy following any officer-involved shooting.

Investigators are expected to review surveillance footage, body-worn camera recordings, witness statements, forensic evidence, and hospital security records as part of the comprehensive investigation. Authorities have not publicly identified either the officer involved or the suspect, nor have they disclosed whether the suspect was armed or physically assaulted anyone during the confrontation inside the hospital. Officials indicated that additional information will be released once interviews are completed and evidence has been analyzed.

Law enforcement officials have urged anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken with investigators to contact the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. While many questions remain unanswered, authorities stressed that the shooting was an isolated event connected to the earlier attempted murder investigation in Simi Valley and that there is no continuing danger to the community. As detectives continue gathering evidence, the investigation remains active, with further updates expected as the case progresses through both the criminal and administrative review processes.
