A motorcyclist was killed and two other people were hospitalized following a violent traffic collision involving a van in La Puente, California, early Thursday morning. The fatal crash, which occurred at a busy intersection, prompted a large emergency response and remains under investigation as authorities work to determine exactly what led to the deadly impact.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the collision was reported at approximately 5:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the intersection of East Amar Road and North Evanwood Avenue. Emergency dispatchers received reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and a minivan, prompting firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement officers to respond immediately to the scene.

When first responders arrived, they found the motorcyclist critically injured in the roadway. Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency personnel, the rider was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin. Officials have also not disclosed the rider’s age, gender, or city of residence.

The crash also left two occupants of the involved minivan injured. Paramedics treated both individuals before transporting them to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Authorities have indicated that their injuries were not considered life-threatening, though no additional information regarding their conditions has been released. The relationship between the two hospitalized individuals has also not been disclosed.

Television news footage from the scene showed the devastating aftermath of the collision. The motorcycle was lying on its side in the middle of the intersection near another involved vehicle, while debris was scattered across the roadway. A privacy tent was erected by investigators to shield the victim from public view as officers documented evidence. Significant damage was also visible to the left side of the minivan involved in the collision, illustrating the force of the impact.

Traffic in the surrounding area was heavily affected for several hours as investigators examined the scene. Portions of East Amar Road and North Evanwood Avenue were temporarily closed while authorities photographed the wreckage, collected physical evidence, and interviewed potential witnesses. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes during the investigation.

Investigators from the California Highway Patrol are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision. At this stage, officials have not announced what caused the crash or whether excessive speed, driver impairment, distraction, or failure to yield played a role. No citations or arrests have been reported, and investigators emphasized that the cause remains under active investigation pending completion of accident reconstruction and witness interviews.

Fatal motorcycle crashes often require extensive forensic analysis because investigators must carefully reconstruct the movements of each vehicle, examine roadway conditions, and review any available surveillance or dash camera footage. The CHP is expected to release additional details once its investigation has progressed and the victim’s family has been notified.

The tragedy serves as another reminder of the vulnerability of motorcyclists on public roadways and the importance of exercising caution at intersections, where many serious collisions occur. As family members await answers and investigators continue their work, the La Puente community is mourning the loss of a life taken far too soon.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that could assist investigators is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol as the investigation remains ongoing.
