Family, friends, and the Clarkston community are mourning the tragic loss of Alan J. Larkin, 42, who died Friday morning following a devastating head-on collision on U.S. Highway 195 just north of Pullman, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. approximately two miles north of Pullman in an area commonly referred to as “Harlow’s Dip.” Investigators said Larkin was driving a 2016 Nissan Versa southbound on Highway 195 when, for reasons that remain under investigation, his vehicle crossed the centerline into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a 2019 Ford Escape.

The impact of the collision was severe. Emergency responders from the Washington State Patrol, local fire departments, and emergency medical services rushed to the scene. Despite their efforts, Larkin was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities confirmed that he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

The driver of the Ford Escape, identified as Chana L. Holt, 47, of Pullman, also sustained injuries in the crash. She was transported to Pullman Regional Hospital for treatment. Officials have not released an update regarding the extent of her injuries, though they indicated she survived the collision. No passengers were traveling in either vehicle.

According to the Washington State Patrol’s preliminary investigation, impairment does not appear to have contributed to the crash. Troopers stated there is currently no evidence suggesting drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision. The initial investigation indicates the crash occurred after Larkin’s vehicle crossed into the lane of oncoming traffic. Investigators continue working to determine what caused the vehicle to leave its lane.

The collision forced the closure of U.S. Highway 195 for several hours while emergency crews assisted the injured, cleared the wreckage, and conducted a detailed investigation. Traffic was diverted around the crash scene until the roadway could be safely reopened later that afternoon.

News of Larkin’s death has prompted an outpouring of sympathy throughout the Clarkston community, where friends and acquaintances have shared messages of remembrance and condolences. Although few personal details have been released publicly, many have expressed sorrow over the sudden loss of a life cut short and have extended their support to his family during this difficult time.

The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has relevant information is encouraged to contact investigators as they work to complete their report.

As loved ones remember Alan Larkin, the tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of roadway safety and the profound impact that serious traffic collisions have on families, friends, first responders, and communities alike.
